Trooping with Rebel Legion and 501st at Scottish Rite
Rebel Legion and 501st members went to Scottish Rite on Dec. 20th to hang out with the kids, and hopefully brighten their day. Many of them have cancer or are in rehab, and were very sick. We went on tours of the hospital and visited many patient rooms, giving away toys, stuffed animals and Star Wars figures. Some of the kids were excited to see us, some amazed, and many too sick to talk, who just nodded or smiled faintly. A lot of the nurses were pretty excited about us and asked for pictures, while others acted like they saw stormtroopers every day! Rebel Legion / 501st does this event every year.
I have been really wanting to go to one of these since I joined Rebel Legion. Having the honor of visiting sick kids with the fun of Star Wars really makes me happy. I was really nervous I wouldn't be able to find it, but God was merciful and I didn't get lost. Also, Jake was there who I knew, which was a huge relief. Someone who recognized me! Everything worked out, and it was a lot less scary than I feared. Two others from the 501st were there - Imperial officers - for whom it was also their second troop, which made it special too.
It was really sad to see all the sick kids, but I was glad we could make their day happier. There was an adorable little 3-year old girl, who was afraid of Santa, but not of us, and she walked over and grasped my lightsaber with her tiny hand, staring at its glow.
