Baby in Grad School. I'll be chronicling the new adventure of motherhood, and it'll likely be challenging being a new mother in grad school. However, I will have help. My mom is going to watch Isaiah while I'm at work, taking care of day care cost. We will do that as we need to to give her a break. Mrs. Petree is also very excited to watch the baby - she will have two grandkids - as John's brother Matt Petree and his wife Casey are pregnant, with a girl Lilly, due August 16th. Much to be excited about!
Announcing Baby Isaiah. I've officially announced it to everyone but I'll announce it here, that I am 18 weeks pregnant! It's going to be a boy and his name is Isaiah Zachariah. Isaiah means "YAHWEH is salvation" and Zachariah means, "God has remembered." We are extremely excited, and looking forward to welcoming him into our lives. My due date is Christmas Day of this year. More photos and pictures will come as they arrive.

My brother got married and I was honored to be a part of the wedding! Here are some pictures of the event. Getting ReadyGetting into the Wedding DressThe GuysThe Party! We had the Salaita Lab and other friends from various labs over at our house for the first time this past month and it was amazing fun! John grilled out hot dogs, hamburgers and marinated chicken! My parents got us a brand new grill for the occasion. Thanks to all my friends for making this an extremely great time! My parents and mother-in-law also got to come and enjoy it.

Roxanne and I went blueberry picking! She picked 9.35 lbs of blueberries and I picked 9.53 lbs. I made blueberry muffins and blueberry coffee cake so far! I'm so excited! They taste great. It took about 3 hrs of picking to get all these - and on the last day too. Even so, there were quite a few blueberries to go still to be picked. I got the recipes from the Hard Labor Creek Blueberry Farm website. Check it out! RecipesBlueberry MuffinsINGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 3/4 cup white sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1 egg 1/3 cup milk 1 cup fresh blueberries 1/2 cup white sugar 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 1/4 cup butter, cubed 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon DIRECTIONS: 1.Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with muffin liners. 2.Combine 1 1/2 cups flour, 3/4 cup sugar, salt and baking powder. Place vegetable oil into a 1 cup measuring cup; add the egg and enough milk to fill the cup. Mix this with flour mixture. Fold in blueberries. Fill muffin cups right to the top, and sprinkle with crumb topping mixture. 3.To Make Crumb Topping: Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, 1/3 cup flour, 1/4 cup butter, and 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon. Mix with fork, and sprinkle over muffins before baking. 4.Bake for 20 to 25 minutes in the preheated oven, or until done. Blueberry Coffee CakeINGREDIENTS:
¼ cup butter, softened 4 oz. cream cheese 1 c. plus 2 tbsp. sugar 1 egg 1 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder ¼ tsp. salt 1 tsp. vanilla 2 cups blueberries 1 tsp. cinnamon DIRECTIONS: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9-inch round cake pan. 2. Using an electric mixer on medium speed, beat the butter and cream cheese until creamy (about 3 minutes). Gradually add 1 c. of sugar and beat well. Add egg and beat well. 3. In a bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt. Add to butter mixture. Stir in vanilla. Gently fold in berries. Batter will be very thick. 4. Pour into prepared pan and smooth top. Combine the remaining 2 tbsp. sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle over batter. 5. Bake for 50 – 60 minutes. Cool on a rack. Day in summary. On July 4th, I pretty much spent the whole day working on our lab's website, then John and I, mom, dad, James and his girlfriend Elizabeth hung out around 8 pm at Snellville, we listened to a band play Cuma Matata, got shaved ice, I read the first 3 chapters of the first book in the Dresden Files (John is reading them) and we popped firecrackers, lifted off a glow globe and watched the fireworks. Then (somehow) we managed to get home in 30 min, beating the traffic, because of the terrific spot Dad found, launched some of our own fireworks, and watched Independence Day (1996) until 1 a.m. It was AWEsome! I had a lot of fun. Glow Globe. I was really excited about that glow globe we launched. We saw them last year, and we really wanted to try them out. So, this year, we launched our own! Big fireworks are scary. Also, the big fireworks we launched were scary as crap. HOLY COW! They were really loud. After my brother launched about seven of them, I'd had enough. They were moderately terrifying. It'll take a while to get used to those. Our neighbors were also launching their own gigantic ones, some of which were bigger than ours. We got quite the show! The fireworks dad bought in GainesvilleMy photos: 4th of July celebrationDad's photosThe Lot! Our street address will be 1111 Sonoma DriveI took mom and dad to visit the lot. John's parent's visited it last week with us. Dad took some great pictures - and insisted that mom and I be in most of them, because he likes people in his pictures. Our lot pictured here: there is an empty space between two rows of houses - this empty space fits three more homes and ours is in the middle. The back of the house overlooks a farm and has two big trees in it. Couldn't be better! Photos of the model home itself that dad tookI wrote explanatory comments on each picture - see those for more details. The house is 3 1/2 bath, 2 bedrooms + master bedroom and 1 loft that can be converted into 3rd bedroom if desired. No basement. Two story. Master, bedrooms and laundry rooms are on the 2nd story. Projected closing date on the house is Nov. 13th. Here are the color choices we made on things! This is the cabinet color we chose: Expresso. The granite countertop color we chose is bottom right: New Caledonia. This is the color of the stone on the outside of the house we picked: Mossy Creek. We have a contract on a house in Silver Oaks! That was exhausting - LOL! Not sure how we decided on stuff so fast, but things seemed to flow really well. Hoping - desperately, for some much needed sleep, since I haven't slept in two days, and not sleeping terrifies me. HA HA! Probably over-excited about the house stuff. Usually, if I don't sleep maybe 2 nights, I always catch the third. I'll try to post some pictures of the colors and stuff that we picked out soon. They look nice. And John agrees!
House HuntingJohn and I have settled on the Silver Oak neighborhood as our choice of residence, which is basically across the street from my parent's subdivision. Homes there are still newly being built and have small yards. They go for 180's to low 200's. Yesterday we looked through the floor plans again, and decided that yes, we still thought the Madison floorplan was our favorite. Today, we looked at a model home in Gainesville that was the Madison floorplan. We think this is what we're going to go with guys! Still some more praying and thinking to do. Check out the pictures though for now. We could get a basement with it -- but considering the rest of the house, we don't think that's necessary. The Master bathroom is also quite large. Upstairs Bedrooms: Two + Two Baths, Extra Slit Windows AddedFoyer / Entryway and Dining Room SpaceThe realtor was currently using this space as an office. John and I are pretty unanimous on this floorplan! We are very excited and pleased. More updates in the weeks to come. |
