Intro: Joining the Salaita lab
Initial Report: Cleaning
Initial Reports: other things that happened on Friday
Mostly, I just cleaned. It took me most of the day. I also cleaned out my stocks in the fridge. Now, I'm all set to go, and I felt very satisfied and very good about it. I got to talk to Kevin a bunch. Talking to Kevin generally results in my being more relaxed. I discussed some points of my system with him.
Daniel came in and was packing up his desk. I didn't expect to see him. Watching him pack up his stuff was so incredibly saddening. I kept addressing Kevin as "Daniel" and I was thinking at the time - oh holy crap - I'm going to miss him more than I even thought. I hate Daniel leaving. I'm already missing him so much it hurts. I wish I could tether him to the lab. It's going to be painful. I'll pray about that, and every time I find myself missing him, I'll pray for him, so he'll get lots of prayers.
Visiting other labs: Scarborough and Lynn
Afterward, I visited the Scarborough lab and talked to Christian. I was hoping to find Marika, but she wasn't there yet. After that, I went straight to the Lynn lab. I wanted to talk to Dr. Lynn, now that I was in the Salaita lab, and make sure things were good. I told him that even though I didn't join, I wanted to keep up with Lisa's project, because it was cool. He said that was fine with him and not to worry about it, because it was pretty obvious I would join the Salaita lab from the beginning. I was so incredibly relieved that he wasn't mad or anything. Now, I can talk to him and not be as nervous.
Learning to use chop sticks: first serious attempt I've ever made
He insisted I come eat his pasta, so I did, even though it's not my favorite. They were having a kind of lab meeting, to make up for the one they missed during the snow. He makes pretty good pasta, as pasta goes.
They only use chop sticks in the Lynn lab, so I finally attempted to learn them. I've avoid this my entire life on purpose. I couldn't quite figure it out, but Dr. Lynn corrected my form and with a few comments from others, I ... think I finally got it at long last! I'm so amazed. I didn't think that was possible. Picking up pasta is still challenging though. I need more practice. I poked a few of them through their hollow cores.
Going home: evening activities
I left at 6 p.m. and alas, it took me til 8 p.m. to get home, but it's to be expected - Friday traffic and Valentine's day. I also had to get some dinner on the way and that took at least 30-40 minutes.
John got me roses and chocolate! I couldn't ask for better. He is so incredibly sweet to me. I have the best husband EVER. I got him a card that I really liked.
We played Star Wars for an hour or so and then went to bed, because I was so incredibly tired, due to lack of sleep and cleaning. I have to figure out how to sleep better. Maybe I shouldn't eat chocolate right before bed after all.
