Setting up my Booth: Hydrophobicity in Action
Just before go time!
"Magic" aka Hydrophobic Sand Station
Details: Commercial hydrophobic sand is generally coated with TMS (trimethylsilanol). You can make this sand at home by baking it, spraying it with Scotchguard 5-6x, allowing it to dry, and repeating the whole process 5-6 more times. You can also dissolve 2-10% wax into sand. I found a patent for this process. However, neither lasts as long as the commercial variety in my hands. The sand shown here was purchased.
The trick to this sand is that it will not get wet, even when in water. When it is spooned back up, it is still dry.
