Intro
Listening to the Throbbing Music of Drills
Since I rotated out, Dr. Salaita and Dr. Hill's previous offices opposite the lab have been demolished. Where they stood, the new addition to the building is being connected to us with a hallway. I've got to observe this make over. The new building is finally taking shape and starting to look excitingly similar to the designs I've seen posted on the 3rd floor.
Being a real lab member, and what the others are up to
The antics of Kevin and Yuan
Yuan has been so sweet, saying how good it is to have me around and giving me hugs almost every time she sees me. I've missed her tremendously and love talking to her. It's so great to be at my usual desk and hear her banter. At lunch, I discussed my idea for the splicing project, and she gave me her thoughts on my favored protein conjugation strategy.
Kornelia: the clown of the lab, having fun!
Kornelia also happens to be our lab safety officer. There was a safety inspection today and I saw her touring around the inspector. The inspector said that I had to write out "HCl" in full as "hydrochloric acid."
Carol: quietly assessing things

Research: A slowly rolling ball
I've also been doing a lot of pHing, making solutions and ordering more chemicals. To my annoyance, I've made a lot of elementary mistakes - I think I've made just about every one that I made previously, which is incredibly irritating. At least I will not forget them again.
