My SWTOR Gaming
Gaming History
John (Zyrath, in-game) got me into World of Warcraft, and we played it for about a year and a half together, up until my sophomore year of college and Cataclysm. It was my first MMO. I played a bloodelf hunter, and he was an orc Warrior, as he loves tanking. I discovered I very much loved raiding. After sophomore year, I became too busy in college to play, and John did not like the story additions in the Cataclysm expansion.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic:
I played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) I and II on the Xbox. They are my favorite Xbox games, and Knights I was actually my first RPG. Naturally, when Star Wars: The Old Republic (SWTOR) came out, we were both quite excited. I joined a guild that a former Oxford college classmate of mine was making with her family, relatives, classmates and gaming friends called Running with Sabers. She insisted that I join an RP server with them, so SWTOR has been my first introduction to RP. I've quite enjoyed it! I still love raiding, primarily. I've found though that RP makes for a richer gaming experience, especially as it fills in the gaps between raids, and is also an incredible writing tool.
Running with Sabers has since fallen into disuse, but it was wonderful for getting to know some other great people. I made really good friends in that guild that I have met in real life and still speak with on a regular basis, most notably, the sister of my classmate, Minnow and her husband Feldring. John and I are now in a casual military-RP guild that has been loads of fun. I played a healer for the first time in TOR, and I'm totally addicted to it now. I've found my calling. Despite the complaints of some about end-game content in SWTOR and other features, most would agree that it has the best story of any MMO at present. And, as I am an incurable Star Wars fan, I will likely always love the game, and probably will play it for years, if I have the time.
Our Gaming Habits (2012 / 2013):
Zyrath and I typically play in the evenings, when he's home from work. Saturday is our tabletop day for Warmachine/Hordes. I'm writing battle reports on my games when I can and posting them to the Gaming Blog. I typically like to spend my time in one game that I love, finding it difficult to commit time to more than one. Occasionally, if I get frustrated or would like to say hi to friends in other games, I'll play others on the side, but never more than two at once. This happened with Rift, briefly. John (Zyrath), on the other hand, is much more ADD. He likes to switch frequently between games, and also enjoys mini-games like tower defense. Since we started playing SWTOR, Zyrath has played Magic: the Gathering (Xbox), Mass Effect 3, Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, Orcs Must Die 2, Guild Wars 2 and Borderlands 2. Occasionally, I'll play one of these with him, such as Diablo 3.
Other Games:
Other games that I have played as a kid and young adult include but are not limited to all the Commander Keens, Duke Nukem I and II, Star Wars: X-wing, Sim City 2000, Roller Coaster tycon, Freelancer, Star Trek: Armada, Star Trek: Bridge Commander, Star Wars: Battlefront I and II, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, Star Wars: Starfighter, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Outcast, Star Wars Galaxies (briefly), Minecraft, Lord of the Rings (Xbox), Magic: the Gathering (Xbox), Lord of the Rings card game, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, Skyrim, Mass Effect I and II.
