About
For general information on all things Star Wars, see Wookieepedia, the Star Wars wiki. It acts as the basis for in-game Star Wars canon from all sources: movies, books and games.
What is The Rebel Legion?
These organizations except anyone 18 years or older all over the world who have gotten together a screen accurate costume. Each area has it's own organized and local chapters, but sometimes they'll do a conglomerate thing for big conventions. They are considered the "official" Star Wars costumers by Lucasfilm. They get requests by different places and people - book stores, hospitals, events - to appear in costume, for promotional events, charities and parades. It is all on a volunteer basis and is a chance for people who love Star Wars and dressing up to practice their hobby more often and brighten people's day at the same time.

Info:
October 6th is "Star Wars Reads Day" and lots of book stores around the country held promotional sales and events, many requesting Rebel Legion and 501st presence. I hung out at one of these, for the bookstore, "Little Shop of Stories" in Decatur. This was before I became an official member. Ashley Eckstein, the voice of Ahsoka Tano (Clone Wars series) was also there, signing autographs.

Star Wars Costuming References:Want to know how to make your own screen accurate Jedi or other Star Wars costume? Here's some links that may help.
The Padawan's Guide - links to sewing instructions for Jedi robes, thoughts on props, screen accuracy and many other topics
Rebel Legion forums - includes discussions between Rebel Legion members and members and hopefuls about all kinds of costuming tips and lore.
Twin Rose Designs - the theatrical costumers from whom I ordered my robe and tunic. Now that I have a base, I intend to branch out and sew my own. But these people are extremely helpful and make theatrical and production quality costumes for decent prices.
Ultra Sabers - the company who makes the best lightsabers on the market. I bought mine from them at Dragon*Con. It's a Consular hilt, green blade, single-bladed saber with sound and quick disconnect. They sell double- and single-bladed sabers with and without sound from $50 to ~$800 dollars. Click here for Ultra Sabers commercial (so funny).
Civilized Galactic Gear - leather worker A. Tom Rehn re-crates beautiful pieces of leatherwork from scratch - Jedi belts, pouches, and other historical paraphenalia. Check him out! It's well worth the expense. To see a belt and pouch he hand-crafted for me, see this link. TOR fashion - reference for loads of gear, outfits and characters in The Knights of the Old Republic MMO, to help build costumes.
