The paper helped tremendously. *is praising the Lord much* I am very thankful I can get a full night's sleep. November 9, 2013 Science, blog: Micro min, a somewhat unnecessarily long post about the last few days of this week – finished Weinert proposal, Dr. Lynn's cume, some funny stories – and plans for next week. November 8, 2013 Update: Whooooaaaaaa, REALLY?? I just got the Davies organic cume back from Ann - the 1st one I took that was a disaster, I spent 2 hrs on just to attempt the first problem to say that I had ... I got a zero of course, BUT! The first problem! I got 8 out of 10 points!! I actually ACHIEVED POINTS! I GUESSED THE MECHANISM RIGHT!! -AHHHH!!! OH MY goodness!!! *dancedancedance* OH yeah!! OH yeah!! I feel like I won the lottery. This has completely made my day. November 7, 2013 Update: [...epiphany while reading article] WAIT a minute here... “As a point of comparison, cellular binding LDL is a <100 nm biological NP that serves as a lipid transporter in the blood stream.” The article measured the binding of LDL and compared it binding of AuNPs to cells in presence of serum. "We find that binding of anionic carboxylate-modified semiconductor QDs, citrate-modified colloidal Au NPs, and LDL to the cell surface is inhibited by the presence of serum proteins." SO [...] Tell me, how does natural LDL evade this inhibition to target cells in vivo?? I'm intrigued and mystified. (See Cellular binding of anionic nanoparticles in inhibited by serum proteins independent of nanoparticle composition, Biomaterials Science, 2013). November 6, 2013 Science, blog: Micro minutes, post of today and random thoughts, from a tired state. November 4, 2013 Update: Dr. Weinert canceled class spur of minute because she lost her voice. *face brightens with hope* praise the Lord. thank you thank you thank you thank you. I shall pray she feels better too and all ppl w/ colds. // In happier news, Rolando, Chen and Vijay have requested a look at the peptide nanotube article spasm search - I'm hoping they might have insight into key points and/or which are most important. Working on updating NSF drafts to final versions. Faith, God blog: Feeling encouraged. Here's a post about why. The Lord took care of and encouraged me today. November 3, 2013 Update: Preliminary NSF stuff worked up and uploaded. Update: is frustrated and overwhelmed. That is all. None of the 3-4 people I've asked for final comments on my NSF essays have replied. *headdesk* Except for Weiwei (he's not in the #). Tried to grade papers for 4 hrs but there's still a HUGE pile. Feeling now too sick to grade any more and miserable. Deadlines closing in. How will it get done? The Lord will just have to take over. Jessica is done. Here's to hoping, maybe, tomorrow will be better. November 2, 2013 Update: AHHHH!!! I JUST found the jackpot of peptide nanotube articles and their applications, including one on making a "forest of tubes" on a SA usable as a capacitor like I was talking to Kevin about. I KNEW people had thought of this before. AHHH!!! SO EXCITING!!! *uncontrollable collecting of articles**click**click**click**click**click* *click**click**click**click**click**click**click* Science, Articles: Updated article tab. See article link by Dr. Marsteller; it looks good: "How Not to Talk About Your Research." Science, blog: Micro Min, post about latest stories, finishing NSF edits and other things, made tipsy and disjointed from lack of sleep. I'm in process of remedying that. *clunk* ZZzzzzz October 31, 2013 Happy Halloween!! // All Hallows' Eve! God blog: Short post of morning readings/thoughts. Science, Articles: Read the short communications, "How to power a nanomotor" and "Nanomotor rotates microscale objects," about using interconversion of the chirality of a molecule in a liquid crystal to rotate objects on its surface. October 29, 2013 God blog: Short post on readings. October 28, 2013 Update (proposal): Dr. Lynn pointed out that proposal essays don't improve themselves in a vacuum, which is true. It's ok. It'll get better in this short time I hope, by being taken apart and reconstructed. Science, blog: Short update, post. I'm pleased to say that, while I was sad this morning, I've shifted into curious mode. Science, blog: Added more to above post about being frustrated. I knew I'd have to face this point, eventually. October 17, 2013 God blog: Short post of some amazing songs. Random blog: Completely bogus post about nothing. I'm tired. This is what happens. More logical, expeditious and informative post coming soon to a blog near you! October 16, 2013 Update: Running on fumes. Was so excited to show Khalid my data that I didn't sleep most of last night. SO EXCITING! Official update on data and other silliness later. Note: Since it's official data, I won't say anything too specific; but, the gist of it is this: the cut/paste reaction works, in proof of principle! Getting mostly back reaction but idea is in the works to fix that. Mid-term is Friday. Proposal due M. Got proposal cume score back - only a half-pass. Me = very sad; but it's because, I didn't really have a figure. Didn't know those were important. Hmm. Good to know. Speaker today was informative, though about computational. Going home to drink coffee and study like a mad woman. I've got to figure out a better schedule. I still don't have this down. October 15, 2013 Science, Articles: Finished a 2013 Rotello article, "The Role of Surface Functionality in Determining Nanoparticle Cytotoxicity." Actually, one of the better NP articles I've read. Humor: "You failed! And it was exceptional!" clip from Meet the Robinsons, a.k.a., how I view failures in research. Minnow linked this to me on my stupidity article and I died laughing. October 7, 3013 God blog: Randomness post, very tired. October 6, 2013 Update: Just purchased Pymol. SWEET. Also, Dr. Parker sent me these. O.o HA! What will he come up with next? I'm really loving Silverman's "The Organic Chemistry of Enzyme-Catalyzed Reactions," optional text Dr. Weinert recommended. Way more beautiful, concise, understandable and useful than anticipated. October 5, 2013 God blog: Post, *gasp*! So, it's like I didn't expect. The Lord gave me the blog back. However, I probably can't post much anyway, because I have 2 midterms and 2 proposals due. Pray for them all please! Thanks. ^.^ Science, blog: Random post about things this week. Random blog: Picture commentary post for the week. October 4, 2013 Humor, Fall: Link; exactly what I did to leaves as a kid and how I still feel about leaves. The most fun thing ever to do in the fall is step on crunchy leaves. Also see this amazing SF/tech stunt. Humor: My classmate Gokul sent me this article, "The Importance of Stupidity in Scientific Research." True, hilarious and said a couple things I needed to hear. Feeling stupid in science is almost the best part! It is liberating once you realize that everybody is stupid at something. October 2, 2013 Update (6:30 p.m.): I felt more confirmation signing off is what the Lord wants for now but maybe it won't be so long. He showed me that He's pulling me off the proverbial "hot seat" worrying about what I should be posting and it's accuracy, fighting for me, and taking me into Himself for rest and restoration (Mark 6:31). Afterward, I shall have more to write about and be stronger. He wants me to trust only Him, not what I'm writing, and this way He gets all the credit. This is not going to be easy for me, but woe is me if I don't do what He asks. I have to. Otherwise, I'm doing much better, feeling like a weight has been lifted off me this morning, peaceful fellowship with Him after class, more sane equilibrium setting in - and not having lab meeting last night due to Dr. Salaita's proposal deadline was a real blessing. I got to catch up on some things including sleep. Started NSF proposal. Wish me luck. I shall return! Update (8:35 p.m.) FIN - I shall leave with this thought: Keon is the BOMB! Ran into him in an un-coincidence leaving Rollins. Ended up talking about things I never expected. Recruited him to join my "praying blessings on Khalid and the Salaita lab" team!! (yessssssssss) This group now numbers Nina, Daniel (Heaven lab), Keon: my inner circle, with whom I can talk most freely about what the Lord is doing. There are two things I know beyond all doubt: 1) I'm destined for the Salaita lab. All I've posted on this point remains untouched. 2) I will fight like a wildcat to stay in the Salaita lab *permanently.* It's one of the things for which I'm asking the Lord. He can do the impossible, yes? If where I was going was in question, it'd be obvious, because I'd be a complete basket case. He's already told me that's a done deal. However, there are several other things I'm praying for Khalid and the Salaita lab I don't much discuss here, that I've challenged/dared the Lord to do, that I don't know if He'll answer or not. I think there's a chance. He gives me burdens at times. It depends on the day, but this one is so intense, it nearly crushes me. He continues to give me just enough strength. Spiritual warfare the past three weeks has been growing to painful levels again, but I didn't talk about it because I didn't think He wanted me to. I felt for whatever reason, this needed to be said - a clarification? The Lord knows why. So, prayers are coalescing and growing!! Keon is now in the know. The Lord is protecting me to make sure I don't burn out. I will keep fighting, if it takes the rest of my life - some things are just that important. October 1, 2013 God blog: Post, very short, in the morning. God blog: Post, last for a while, with explanation. I sign off for a time. I hope to be writing perhaps more frequent but much shorter posts. Today's project didn't quite succeed - clocked at 18 min. Make that 20. Practice needed. August 19, 2013 Faith, God blog: Added short post: things I'm thankful for today. Science, Questions: Added a question; added terms and techniques to appropriate pages from Weiwei's paper and SI. Defined some terms. August 18, 2013 Faith, God blog: Added post of Scripture that I read and heard that spoke to me. Science, Articles: Read Weiwei's paper, "Quantum dots encapsulated within phospholipid membranes: phase-dependent structure, photostability, and site-selective functionalization," to be published soon. Completely fascinating!! August 17, 2013 Update: Had an awesome prayer meeting this morning, got to hang out at Ms. Harmon's in the afternoon and give her the whole summer research saga, and I get to hang out all evening with John.
