About
Novel Writing: Current Status
Currently, I would like to finish a fantasy/sci-fi (space opera) novel draft that I wrote during NanoWriMo 2011 and 2012. As of October 2014, work on it has ceased while I get over the most difficult hump of grad school. I've been really focused on grad school since entering last May 2013. However, I'm looking to get the work started up again at some point. I'm always thinking about writing on some level, imaging new plots. My favorite writing expo is Nanowrimo or November: National Novel Writing Month. Check it out!
Short stories
In 2012-2013 I worked on Star Wars fan fiction short stories, as a way to help me practice different types of writing, and just have fun. For those, see me gaming tab, Online: SWTOR page, at the bottom, for links. They are a lot more impromptu and less edited. I don't proclaim it as my 'best' by any means.
I may consider applying to the Writers of the Future contest at some point. I think that'll be a fun challenge to help me motivate myself to improve my writing, even if I don't come close to winning. I'll be posting my entries on this page, as well, as they're available (and provided that's allowed - I have to double check).
Contact Info
If you'd like me to friend you on Nanowrimo to be writing buddies, send me a PM on my enjin page, here. I love having more writing buddies! Or, if you'd like to just talk writing, feel free to send me a friend request on enjin (name, Culurien; user ID, 1285309). It's my public 'facebook' page specifically for gaming/writing nerdiness. However, if you do send me a PM, please specify that it's about writing. I am very unlikely to respond to a random friend request.

Writing News 2012:NanoWriMo 2012
CULURIEN IS A NANOWRIMO 2012 WINNER!! This is the first time I've won, out of three tries. For my Nano writing blog, which includes what I did with writing/Nanowrimo this year, check out this link here. I will continue to update it. My next goal is to continue to write ~1500 words in December and on into next year!! Also, feel free to check out my Nanowrimo profile page here. Sanderson's Lectures Brandon Sanderson, writer of fantasy such as The Way of Kings and finisher of The Wheel of Time, is my favorite author. His summer classes were posted online. If interested, please see writingaboutdragons on youtube, and my posts in the "Sanderson's Lectures" tab under Writing. His student also wrote up his own notes, which can be found at this link: http://www.writeaboutdragons.com/home/brandon_w2012/. |
How I View Writing:Art
BY HERMAN MELVILLE In placid hours well-pleased we dream Of many a brave unbodied scheme. But form to lend, pulsed life create, What unlike things must meet and mate: A flame to melt—a wind to freeze; Sad patience—joyous energies; Humility—yet pride and scorn; Instinct and study; love and hate; Audacity—reverence. These must mate, And fuse with Jacob’s mystic heart, To wrestle with the angel—Art. My Word Count:*as of 11-30-12, will be updated soon!
